Blood: Awakening-Part 2

Kaydle

Kaydle awoke abruptly in her room. She shot straight up and backed away from the light shining through her curtains. The mid-day sunlight beaming down on her was extreme and caused Kaydle to have an intense migraine on impact. "Fuck. My head. Where am I? My room? How in the hell?" said Kaydle to herself as she rushed across her bed to snatch her curtains closed. "Kaydle?" a voice shouted through her door. Kincaid, her younger brother overheard her and then rushed through the door, "Where in the hell have you been?! The cops came looking for you. Did you beat the hell out of Cassidy? I heard she won't be able to walk again. What is going on? And where in the hell is Alison?" Kaydle clutched her head as her brother's bombardment of questions and intense headache began taking a toll on her.

"Listen," said Kaydle, "I barely even know how I got here and I can't remember a thing from last night. I feel like shit." Kincaid examined his sister closely then said, "Well you sure look like shit. What happened to you?" Kaydle looked down at the dried dirt and blood on her hands then decided it was best to take a shower and figure out her next move. "Poor kid," Kaydle thought to herself as the water washed over her, "He's worried sick but I guess I can't blame him. I feel nauseous, but I'm kind of hungry. What the hell is wrong with me?" Kaydle's train of thought came to a halt as she heard a loud knocking coming from downstairs followed by an official announcement from the sheriff's department.  "Oh fuck!" She thought as she snapped to her senses and started rushing out of the shower. "We know you're in there Kaydle come on out and talk to us." Shouted the cops through the door. Kincaid ran to the bathroom door and said "Kay, what should we do? They're out here for you, I don't know what to do I'm scared." Hearing the fear in her brother's voice was enough to break her down and force her to turn herself in. She exited the bathroom, hugged her trembling brother, and said "Everything's going to be fine. I'll go do what I have to do. Tell Mom I'm sorry okay? I love you kiddo." She gave Kincaid one last hug then made her way outside and out the door. She was then read her rights, handcuffed, then taken away to the county jail.

Kaydle being detained

At the county jail, Kaydle was processed, booked, and then escorted to an interrogation room. She then walked over to the table in the middle of the room, then sat down, and had her handcuffs fastened to the tabletop. The two correctional officers who escorted her in then exited the room, and after about 10 minutes of waiting a familiar face came through the door. "Kaydle Jensen? Detective Hernandez. You remember me, don't you? Gave me a pretty mean hook a couple years ago back when I first started out. Honestly, I always had higher hopes for you kid. Hoped you could turn things around." Kaydle sat silently as the detective spoke. His attempts at showing her sympathy did nothing but slightly annoy her, especially in her pressing time. "What do you want man?" She fired back hastily. "Yeah, we all know I decked that bitch in the face. I didn't mean to stick her in a wheelchair but I guess it is what it is." Hernandez then had a seat himself with his eyes fixed on Kaydle the entire time and responded. "Well, actually I don't have any questions about that. I want to talk to you about Alison. Her parents haven't heard from her since yesterday. We know you guys are close and we also know about your little spot in the woods thanks to a tip." Kaydle rolled her eyes as she thought, "Cassidy. she's the only other person who knows about our spot. Little bitch." Detective Hernandez then shuffled through his folder of evidence then slid pictures of the crime scene across the table.

Kaydle looked down at the photos that depicted her violent encounter in the woods and suddenly pieces of that night came flooding to her. Hernandez then pointed out one picture in particular that showed some blood and signs of a clear struggle. "That's the spot where Alison was lying. I remember now, something happened to us, but what was it?" Kaydle thought to herself as Hernandez readied his line of questioning. "Look, Ms. Jensen. You and I both know you're going down for that assault at the college campus. There's no way around that. What I need from you is any information on Alison's whereabouts. We combed every inch of that area and we found nothing but blood and some hair. I know you two were close and I don't think you yourself would have done anything to her, but then again I could be wrong." Kaydle sat in silence as her heart slid into the pit of her stomach. Not only is she going to be kicked out of school and locked away, but now her best friend is missing and she is more than likely the main suspect.  Her throat grew dry as the anxiety consumed her. The flickering lights of the interrogation room were no help in calming down her mental state. Kaydle looked down at her cuffed hands then glared back up at Detective Hernandez and said, "Fuck you. I don't know a damn thing."

Hernandez felt himself growing slightly irritated with Kaydle as he slicked his jet-black hair back and said "Alright, fine. You don't want to talk to me, I get it. You need to understand that you're looking at some serious time here and you don't have a lot of lifelines to use. Guards, take her back to her holding cell. From there you'll be taken to general population where you are to remain until your court hearing this Monday. Hopefully, you'll feel a bit more cooperative before then. Good day, Miss Jensen." Hernandez gathered his papers and exited the room as two correctional officers walked in to escort Kaydle back to her holding cell.

Kaydle in her cell

Back in her holding cell, Kaydle was now alone and processing everything that happened. Her mind was racing and an overwhelming nausea swept through her body in waves sending shivers up her spine. It was a small, local jailhouse so it was rather quiet for a correctional institution. The only thing she could hear were the footsteps of the officer patrolling the holding cells and some distant murmurs. Her head dropped down as she thought to herself, "Serious time? How long did he mean? Like, years? Oh my god, what am I going to do?" Her panic was cut short when suddenly, the lights flicked off and on. Once they remained on, a man appeared at her cell. A man with white hair in an all-white suit. The man from the woods. Damien.

Damien

Kaydle gasped the second she saw him as everything immediately came flying back to her. "It was you. You son of a bitch what did you do with Alison?" snarled Kaydle through clenched teeth. Damien tapped his claws on the bars of the cell as he smirked and replied, "Hmph. How did you let yourself end up here? Why, I gave you everything you need to get out of silly situations such as this." The lights flickered again and Damien was gone. Kaydle jumped and ran to the cell bars. "Everything I need? what the hell is he talking about? Guard!" The guard on patrol made his way to Kaydle's cell and stopped.

"What the hell are you screaming about lady?" Said the guard as he met Kaydle's cell. "Didn't you see him?" stammered Kaydle, "The man in the white suit, the one who attacked me in the woods. He was here!" The guard looked around with a puzzled look on his face then looked back at Kaydle only this time, he was stuck in an almost hypnotic gaze. When their eyes met, Kaydle felt an almost numbing sensation wash through her. She wasn't sure as to what was happening but she could feel as though she had some sort of hold over the guard. Instinctively, something urged her to say "You want to let me go." and seconds after she uttered the words, the guard mirrored back in an almost zombie-like tone, "I want to let you go." He then proceeded to unlock the cell door and stand aside as Kaydle reluctantly exited the cell. "What in the hell is happening?" Kaydle thought to herself as she slowly backed away from the guard and towards an emergency exit.

nervous Kaydle

While walking backward with her eyes trained on the zombified guard, Kaydle accidentally kicked over a broomstick. The loud crash of the broom hitting the floor seemed to have freed the guard from whatever hold Kaydle had on him. "What the fuck? What happened? What are you doing out of your cell inmate?" Said the guard as he reached for his nightstick. "Oh shit," said Kaydle as the guard came charging towards her ready to strike. He swung his nightstick down towards her face as hard as he could. Instinctively, Kaydle's hand shot up to defend herself. They both stood in awe as his mighty blow came to a screeching halt in Kaydle's hand. "Wha-What the hell? Let go of me!" The guard screamed in confusion. How could this small woman be holding him at bay? The ex-marine turned correctional officer couldn't comprehend what he was seeing. Kaydle was just as shocked. This man was massive yet in her hand it felt like he had the strength of a toddler. Kaydle tightened her grip which caused the guard to scream in agony as he fell to his knees. "Let go of me you goddamn monster!" Kaydle gave him one final squeeze which caused his forearm to explode in a red mist in her hands. "AAAAAH!!" The guard screamed as he watched his arm explode. Kaydle then went into boxing mode and threw a sharp hook to his body-which penetrated his ribs and blew a hole clean through his torso. "Holy SHIT!" said Kaydle as she shook his carcass off of her arm. She tossed the guard aside as if he were a bag of trash and exploded out the emergency exit into the night.

Kincaid was sitting in Kaydle's room rummaging through her stash. Once he found what he was looking for, he began to break down and roll up some of her personal smoke stash to calm his nerves. suddenly a faint tap at the window caught his attention.

"The hell was that?" Said Kincaid as he went towards the window. Once there he couldn't help but gasp as if he had seen a ghost. "Kaydle?! What are you doing here?? How in the hell did you get up here?!" Kaydle grinned at her panicked brother. His bloodshot eyes and jitteriness told her exactly what he was up to before she arrived. "I knew you've been pinching my stash you little shit. What's been going on here? Have you talked to mom? And pass me that." Kincaid took a drag off the freshly rolled joint then passed it to Kaydle through the window as he said, "Yeah mom has been freaking out all day. She told me not to say a word then she gets on the phone with half the family and just spills everything. I don't understand. Um, question. Shouldn't you be in jail or prison or something? How are you here?"

Kaydle exhaled her smoke "Funny, this doesn't really seem to be hitting me like it should." She examined the joint then responded to Kincaid, "Look Caider-Aid, I don't have much time to explain but long story short? I can't stay here. I imagine the cops will be here again, seeing as how I'm pretty sure I just killed one." Kincaid's jaw dropped after what he had just heard. "I'm sorry, I must be higher than I thought...did you just say you killed a cop?!" Kaydle took another drag off the joint then answered, "Yeah I'm pretty sure he's dead. Something's going on with me and I don't know what but I'm going to find out and I'm going to find out what happened to Alison. I think I'm going to lay low in the city for a while. The city is huge and I can hide out there better than out here in the middle of nowhere." Kincaid was alarmed at the calmness in his sister's voice despite everything she had just told him. "Kaydle, the city? I know you have a mean streak but the city is crazy wild. Maybe turn yourself in and.." Kaydle held up a finger motioning Kincaid to be quiet. "Look. I'm fairly certain there's no turning back now. Don't worry about me little bro I'll be fine and I'll be back to check on you as soon as I can. Tell Mom I love her and if any weirdos in white suits come knocking? DON'T answer it. I gotta go." Tears started to form in Kincaid's eyes as he desperately thought of any excuse to keep his sister at the window. "How are you going to get to the city? You don't strike me as the hitchhiking type and you definitely can't go through the woods, where people go missing, yearly, most recently ALISON. " Kaydle smiled as she saw right through Kincaid's distraction and replied, "I plan to cut through the woods. something tells me I'll be alright." She hugged her brother tightly and disappeared into the night.

Kaydle running

Due to being in boxing classes for the last six years of her life, Kaydle was used to running long distances. However, once she reached the woods and had a larger open area to cover, she was immediately taken back by her insane bursts of speed. "Holy shit! Everything around me is a blur, but when I focus I can literally see everything! I..I can smell everything, I can hear EVERYTHING. How am I moving so fast? What is going on?!" Her mind ran wild as she tore through the pitch-black forest at an unreal pace. She could hear things she had never heard before. The howling of creatures that sounded so feral that she couldn't for the life of her comprehend what she was hearing. "I don't know what the hell that was but there is no way in hell that was a bear, I'd better hurry up." She began moving even faster, pushing the limits of her newfound abilities. Within minutes she covered close to thirty miles on foot. The hustle and bustle of the city life could be heard through the clearing before her. She had arrived.

Her feelings of limitlessness began to fade as she darted her way into the city. Feeling burnt out and even more nauseous than before, she hurriedly searched for the first alleyway she could find and quickly ducked into it. "I feel like shit. My stomach is killing me. I feel almost out of breath, but my lungs don't burn at all. This is so weird. What in the hell is wrong with me?" Said Kaydle as she collapsed behind a dumpster. She tilted her head towards the sky and was met with a raindrop on her forehead. "Well of course it starts raining now. How lovely," she said sarcastically as she slid her hood up.

Kaydle hiding

As lightning struck in the sky over the alley, the back door to a nightclub burst open and a very badly beaten man came flying out of it, landing flat on his back as two goons stepped out and walked over to him. "Oh shit." Thought Kaydle as she slid further down and peaked around the side of the dumpster. "Ay Shotz, what did boss man say we should do with bro next time he came around without paying up?" The goon wearing a tan coat with a freshly lit blunt replied, "I'm almost POSITIVE he said to pop his ass!" Shotz ashed his blunt on the man's head then proceeded to backhand him into the ground. The man attempted to get up but was met with the boots and fist of Shotz and his associate.

Shotz(left) random goon(right)

Kaydle watched as they beat the man senseless. The passing by of cars combined with the thunder and rain kept the sounds of the assault isolated to the alleyway. A boot to the face sent the bloodied man flying backwards. His blood sprayed the alley walls. As the violence went on, Kaydle began to feel an intense, overwhelming sensation from deep within. She felt like an animal locked on to a target. Something in the air had triggered this response inside of her and she could contain it no longer. Kaydle erupted from behind the dumpster. An intense, guttural shriek escape her mouth as she flew towards the men. "What the fuck?" said Shotz as he reached for his signature sawed off shotgun that was tucked under his shirt. Kaydle charged and smacked him into the wall behind him. As he hit the ground Shotz managed to get a shot off with his shotgun. Kaydle was launched back and crashed into the dumpster behind her.

"Fuck! Oh my god that hurt! Wait...it..it kind of doesn't hurt. Like, at all." She lunged at Shotz and shoulder checked him to sleep. Without even turning to look, Kaydle then launched herself backwards towards the other goon and delivered a devastating blow to the back of his neck, breaking it on impact. He fell to his knees and choked to death on his own blood. Kaydle then walked over to the beaten man who was now cowering in the corner. He was too frightened to move. Kaydle then extended her hand and offered to help him up. The man slowly reached out to her as he stammered, "T-thank you. You saved my.." As his hand met hers, Kaydle snatched the man up off the ground and plunged her now very sharp and long fangs into his neck. The man screamed and tried to get away but Kaydle was too powerful. She held him there with the conviction of a boa constrictor on its prey. Her fingernails were now claws that she had sunk deep into her victim's shoulders to eliminate any possibility of escape. She dropped his lifeless body to the ground and she fell back gasping. "What the fuck?! What the FUCK?!" She suddenly remembered that she had in fact taken a shotgun blast to the abdomen. She looked down and saw her clothes had been damaged, but she was fine and healed. "This is impossible...What in the hell is happening?! Am I...am I a vampire?"
